Hydnocarpus venenatus is a species of plant in the Achariaceae family. It is endemic to Sri Lanka. The oil the plants produce is known as Kavetel.

Description

A tree. The leaves are sword shaped and taper to the base. There are teeth along the edge. The male flowers are brownish-white. They occur singly or in pairs. The female flowers are small and crowded. They are in panicles in the axils of leaves. The fruit is a round berry with a coating. It has a blunt beak.

Medicinal Uses

The oil is used in medicine.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant. It grows in wet lowland rainforest. It grows near rivers.
