Prunus japonica (also Cerasus japonica), also called Japanese bush cherry, Oriental bush cherry, or Korean bush cherry is a shrub species in the genus Prunus that is widely cultivated for ornamental use. Its native range extends from Central China through to the Korean peninsula.

Description

A temperate shrub from sunny mountain slopes with oval leaves bearing deep teeth, hardy to zone 4 and belonging to the Rosaceae family. It produces both fruit and seeds that are edible.

Edible Uses

Both the fruit and seeds are eaten.

Distribution

Temperate. It grows on sunny mountain slopes. It suits hardiness zone 4.
