Disa welwitschii is a perennial plant and geophyte belonging to the genus Disa. The plant is native to Angola, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Uganda, Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. In South Africa, the plant occurs in Limpopo. There are two subspecies: Disa welwitschii subsp. occultans (Schltr.) H.P.Linder Disa welwitschii subsp. welwitschii

Description

An orchid. It grows 35-55 cm tall. The flowering shoots are 5-12 cm long and 2.5-3 cm wide. They have 12-15 leaves. There are many flowers in a dense group. The tubers are oval and 1-3 cm long by 1-2 cm wide.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant.
