Asystasia dalzelliana is a species of plant in the family Acanthaceae It is commonly known as the violet asystasia, Chinese violet and Ganges primrose. It is distributed in Asia and Africa.

Description

A herb. It keeps growing from year to year. It grows about 60-100 cm tall and is branched. The stems are angular and swollen at the nodes. The leaves are opposite and unequal but oval. The flowers are purple. They are trumpet shaped and 3-4 cm long. They have 2 lips. The upper one has 4 lobes and the lower lip is dark violet.

Edible Uses

The leaves are eaten.

Medicinal Uses

The leaves are used as a vegetable in Kenya and Uganda. The plant has also uses in traditional medicine in Nigeria.

Distribution

It is a tropical plant.
