Description

An evergreen tree. It grows 15-20 m tall. The leaves are oval or sword shaped and 11-20 cm long by 3-5 cm wide. The base is wedge shaped and they taper to the tip. There are teeth along the edge near the tip. The fruit are long and prickly. The seeds or nuts are cone shaped and 10-15 mm across. There are 2-3 in a smooth case. This is 30 mm across.

Edible Uses

The seeds and nuts are eaten.

Distribution

It is a subtropical plant. It grows between 1,900-2,600 m above sea level.
