A Mediterranean climate herb in the Amaranthaceae family, found in the Sahara and arid places. It produces both edible young leaves and fruit.

Notes

Probably all Beta are one species and 2 main forms - Cicla - for leaves, and Contiva - for roots. Also put in the family Chenopodiaceae.
